GGC Hypotheses, Outline, Datasources

Hypothesis:  Global grassland communities (GGCs) are 'structured' similarly.

Predictions:  GGCs should occupy similar trait space worldwide - if not, does trait space vary with: latitude, precipitation, PET, nativity (proportion of species or biomass that is native vs. non-native), land use history (intact vs. abandoned),  or grazing pressure?

Is there a prediction for phylogenetic structure?  For species diversity?

Data needs:  community, trait, environmental data.  In addition to DGS sources we might use: China grasslands data, European sites with LEDA trait data, ...

Dangers: Available trait data may be too coarse to detect differences, ie Scott's example of two similar bunch grasses, one of which has taken off while the other has not.
